    Hi all,

I would really appreciate any comments or advice that you have!  I have a degree in Early Childhood Studies and have worked primarily with babies in a nursery setting.  I am now a secondary school teacher but would really love to make the switch to be a childrens centre teacher as this is where my heart lies.  I have expereince of planning using the Birth to Three framework but no expereince with the Foundation Stage guidance.  How difficult/easy would it be for me to gain a post as a Childrens Centre Teacher?  Anything I could be doing to enhance my applications/skills?  Thankyou!

It's a great job. Very interesting, no day is the same. There is not as much direct teaching time as you are there to monitor and initiate good  early years practice and quality. Only thing is........how long is the role of the Children's Centre Teacher going to last? You need to be sure that you will still have the job after March 2011. At this moment in time i dont think anyone can answer that question.

    Baked Beans,

I was thinking the same thing- it is very uncertain at the moment . In fact I know of people doing our job who have already been made redundant. Probably not the best career move at the moment although it makes me really sad to say that.

This is worrying.  I am also thinking about becoming a Children's Centre teacher once I finish my course- I originally trained as a secondary teacher, but am now doing EYPS.  Am seriously wondering what the future of EYPS might be once the government has carried out its review of early years!

I think us children's centre teachers might be replaced by EYPs in time. Much cheaper. But having done both QTS and EYPS I'm not sure that EYPS is a good replacement. But that's just my experience.

Given the situation in some challenging school settings, EYP might be a good way forward for those who love small children and want to work with them. I can see advantages in this way of operating.
