    Hi,

I have just come out of teaching recpetion for four years, and have been with a supply agency since July. Last week I went for an interview at a children's centre (through the agency) and got the job. It will be untill christmas but may possibly be extended. I start on Monday for my induction, any advice on what to expect or what I can prepare/read before I go?

    Starting to feel nervous now!

    Thanks in advance!

I see you haven't had any replies. I think we need a bit more information about what your role in the Children's Centre will be. All these Centres are different in what they provide and how they run, it seems your working hours are not those of a maintained setting if you are starting now.

I didnt see this earlier Rachndylan but I see you have started already, so how did your first day go?

You will probabaly find there is so much ti take in, and so much t think about regarding your role 9as they are all different)

    Hello,

Thanks for your replies. I started as a childrens centre teacher working alongside another teacher. She is full time and I am supporting her for two days of the week as she in charge of 5 centres and a large area. My mind is still going over all the things I have learnt in the last few days, BUT, I have much better idea of my role now. However, I am still nervous as to how to support the 0-3 range well. I know that good practise is good practise whatever the age ...but any literature or websites that you have found useful for this age range?

    Thanks again

    Rachel

    Hi Rachel,

All teachers coimng form school base feel a little concerned about 0-3 in my experience. it is out of our comfort zone.

i thoroughly recommend Eleanor Goldschmeid's book People Under three. it is very readable and in my opinion sets out an ideal expernece for young children in daycare. I found it unrealistic in some ways but still a really excellent summary of what very young children need from us in the early years sector.

Good luck in your new job. In my experience the job changes wildly from year to year and from authority to authority. in many ways you can make the job what you want it to be!

Perhaps you can ask to be sent on EYPS training so that you can develop your knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the EYFS including working with under 3's.

I will definately ask about training and will be ordering the book this evening. Even if I am only to stay there a few months (supply contract) I think the experience and training would be invaluable.

Thanks for you for your replies

    Rachel
