With particular reference to the November 2011 paper: I always find it disappointing if there is an over-large number of underlined words in the Latin texts, with their meanings given in the right-hand margin. It really detracts from the sense of achievement that kids should get by getting to grips with the prescribed vocab compiled by ISEB and being confronted with passages of Latin, based almost solely on these, that they can understand. When you sometimes get 4-word sentences in which every word is underlined and glossed, I wonder 'what's the point?' I appreciate that the examiners may feel very constrained at times by the prescribed list that they try to work to, but I do hope that the number of words used which fall outside of this list (which then have to be underlined and glossed) can be kept to a minimum.
