Hiya
Am a non-specialist who is teaching History this year. Have to do a lesson on Gunpowder plot and whether it was a terrorist plot or government conspiracy. Usually look through text books and manage to piece something together but can find very little help with this...would really appreciate advice. thanks x

Do it as a mystery-get 6 piccies from google images eg James I, parliament building 1605, a gunpowder barrel, the Pope at the time, the Monteagle letter, and a clock. Give the pictures out 1 at a time and pupils have to discuss what the picture might be, and how it links to the other pictures you give out. This gets them hypothesising and trying to make links. They usually get the event when the gunpowder barrel appears-but then you have to go through the other picture connections.

I hate to be a 'typical' History teacher- but Nick Knowles did an excellent 'pop-documentary' on it a while back. Download it from uknova. Richard Hammond did a follow up on whether it would have been possible to blow up Parliament if the plot had succeeded. I only use first- but both perfect for Y8.

Hi, go onto www.schoolhistory.co.uk - there are loads of worksheets on the gunpowder plot too. And I agree, that pop documentary is really good!
