    See:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2008/oct/03/pupilbehaviour.schools

Based on a report in the TES, I believe, and discussed on the radio this am.

Of course 4/5 teachers wouldn't! Not such a good story though...

In which case, these 80% who would not support the canes' reintroduction, ought not have cause for complaint about pupil misbehaviour.

It would be interesting to know the profile of those teachers who voted for the Cane. Are they the ones who have bad behaviour in their classrooms?

Did you hear the prat on the Today programme who backed it's return?  Sounded like the Rowan Atkinson teacher:  "Haemoglobin?  Orifice?"

Yeah, beating children has always encouraged them to behave well.  I'm sure it worked in Haute de la Garennes...

Is there any evidence that corporal punishment in schools encouraged them to behave worse?

any teacher who believes that caning should be allowed should not be allowwed in the classroom in my opinion. these surveys should be used to find out who these evil perverts are then they should be 'outed' and humiliated.

As I say, I'm sure the children in Hautes de la Garenne behaved very well, given the beatings they faced...

Of course, later in life, they may become drug addicts, abusers, wife beaters, because they learn that's the way to get people to do what you want... but hey, at least they behave period 5 on a Friday with Mr Smith, eh?

a minor point perhaps, but i thought haut de la garenne was a children's home , not a school ....
