    Alright

Am at a reasonable comp with fair to middling kids and have just finished the first year with OCR Nationals. There is no way we would have finished the 2 Units required for the First Award. About 50% have passed. All will get 1 awards by the end of next year. Some will get 2.

I think the delivery will be quicker next year but I don't think we could manage it inside the 90 GLH OCR have allocated for it.

    Just wondering if others

First time round it will take more time as you learn the processes that you can "cut corners" for the future. We are in our 4th round of 1 and 21 now and we have it down to about 45 GLH for distinction grade kids. The key to it all is learning how to overlap work. For example you can do the Julian opie tutorial on my site in early years, export it as gif and then this can be used as one of your sources of graphics for AO4 of unit 1. Personally first thing I will do with year 7s next year is get them to set up folders for nationals and then drop of bits of graphics in AO4 of unit 1 for use in the future. Spot the difference on a photo of a pop star etc can be reused when they start the newsletter, as could an adapted "chav animals" by giving the likes of Rihanna a makeover in the style of stella artois and burberry.

i teach at a comp with low attainment, bad attitude and low expections (kids) this year i have delivered Unit 1, 20 and 21 over two hours per week many of my students are working at distinction level (self directed) so it can be done this is my 3rd year delivering this course, and i have written all the scenarios so that they are relevent to the students

Like Peteabove I have writen my own scenarios and my students easily completed units 1 and 22 this year. This is the first time of delivery and I hope to cut those corners next year but I only have them for yrs 10 and 11 so it'll be about one unit feeding another. If web graphics in 21 can be used and demonstrated by putting them in unit 2 the surely ALL file use must count towards unit 1. unit 1 does seem to be the pickiest to evidence so do lots of small set tasks with example evidence for them to "copy". Fingers crossed I'll continue to get it right as judged by my moderatorand hopefully OCR wont change the rules about evidence like they did at GCSE

I understand what you are doing and prepping the course with KS3 will make things quicker in KS4 but you should still calculate those lessons in the GLH if you are to get a true reflection of how long it takes to cover the course. If you add up the time it amounts to more than just what you are spending at KS4.

My biggest problem is Unit 1. It is unfortunate that it is mandatory and that ICT as a subject is where you must learn how to support the use of MS Office software.

I will refine the couse next year. But I am not wasting the time we have exploring a wide range of software at KS3 on something which really disaffects students in the classroom.

I am delivering this course for the first time from September on 1hr a week with some able students over two years. I have booked myself on to the OCR training course in September but would really like to see a good exemplar of work and I know OCR provide this on the course but could do with seeing a version now. Has anybody out there been on this course and got an exemplar so I can start on the right tracks? If not, can anybody guide me to exemplars that are on line that you know of?

I understand what you are driving at, but the whole point is that the first thing I do with Y7 anyway is to teach graphics with fireworks. So I will just make sure that when they do spot the difference etc.. they do it with a scenario that could be reused later on with unit 1. I do not consider the Y7s will be doing OCR work is just a well timed conincidence that what they do can be reused. Mind you all I am talking about is around 3 hours work anyway....

Pardon the stroppy rant. Just frustration at not having made the targets set for this year. Just have to pick it up a bit for next year. What your  doing makes sense, and I think it's good advice to drop it in to the programme of study as early as possible. My students are all admirers of your work by the way. The Chav Zoo tutorials are a big hit.

    Lovin ur work

    just reading the above:

We do unit 1 after completing other units. Then use those to complete the requirements of Unit 1. Have been moderated twice with no problems. I keep away from creating scenarios for Unit 1. By the time they have completed two units they can walk through Unit 1 self directed.

I get through this unit asap and concentrate on other interesting units.
