I've been looking at AQA, OCR, Edexcel and WJEC's offerings for 2010 and put some thoughts up here

    What do others think?

The third unit in OCR (which HappyHippy seems unclear about) appears to be based on the existing Module 4 of the OCR(B) syllabu.

As such it isn't really business-focused - it's really quite a deep unit involving a detailed look at the technology and work practices of the business concerned. As far as I am concerned, it's always been the best bit of the old syllabus as for once you can really get in and talk in detail about how IT affects 'real' people, as well as talking proper technical understanding.

Sounds interesting. My worry was that they haven't included a sample paper in the SAM pack they released, although I expect this was in error as there are two copies of the pre-release.

My HoD certainly seems to be favouring the OCR options (ICT & Computing) for 2010. Potentially exciting times (or am I still just too naive?)

    Mark (?)

Two other boards not there and so far no news. ICAA and CCEA. As I understand it, ICAA actually managed to miss the deadline to submit the first draft and so have been told they will have to wait a year. Their site has the other subjects' new specs, so I suspect the rumour to be true. We currently use them and lackadaisical is an understatement. Their current assessment regime is 2 exams and 2 coursework elements, being exam 1 20% UMS 1 hour multiple choice, exam 2 20% ICT in a business environment coursework 1 40% UMS no time limit, coursework 2 20% controlled task 5 hours.

The other board that has contacted me is CCEA (Northern Ireland), but I have not seen the spec. Their current spec is relatively new anyway (2008?), but I think only recently QCA approved.

I have read what I can get my hands on, and the WJEC spec seems the best for our students. Edexcel don't seem to know how to repy to voice mail or reply to emails. Nuff said.

AQA? I don't think I'm up to the task of getting on baord with them, having dumped them for A Level. Went to WJEC A Level meeting today and was told WJEC had 3 times the number of candidates sitting AS ICT this year compared to last year. I have to report the WJEC have been nothing short of great, and the same team runs the GCSE.
