    Hi

I am just looking to get a feel for what other schools do with support staff on inset days.  Until recently we were left to our own devices which was great as we were able to catch up on work but under a "Whole Staff" ethos we are "invited" to attend training.  The problem is that we do not find the training offered to be relevant to our job roles and, at times, is completely incomprehensible to us!  We are also informed that failure to attend our allocated training session is a disciplinary issue which does wonders for the morale.

We would be happy to attend targetting training but curriculum INSET is a nonsense for us and we'd rather be clearing the decks!

    Thanks in advance

    Frustrated Admin!

Applaud the 'whole staff' ethos, but do not see how an 'invitation' to attend staff training can then turn into a disciplinary issue is support staff do not attend. All my staff are always welcome to attend any training/staff meetings, but I am clear when this 'compulsory' eg child protection, data entry etc. and am willing to pay overtime to hourly paid staff if necessary (especially midday supervisors who have to come back to school). I would rather have staff 'clearing the decks' or preferably getting the decks ready for action than sitting in an (eg) AfL session for a couple of hours.

If you are invited, then I don't see how it can be compulsory.

Are you being paid as these would be extra days if it were the LA I work for.
