AFRICAN DRUMMING WORKSHOPS AND COURSES -

     RECOMMENDED BY TES POSTERS

I teach African drumming and can provide one-off workshops or longer courses for schools (and other groups).

Please see below for recommendations from regular TES posters

I work with any/all ages and key stages.  My workshops are especially good as a way to deliver the National Curriculum for music at Key Stages 2 and 3. For students taking Music for GCSE and beyond a chance to explore traditional rhythms on genuine African instruments is a great way to enhance their studies.

Everyone, up to and including adults, can enjoy and benefit from this activity. No previous experience is necessary. It's good for relieving stress (staff sessions available!) and also great for team-building.

I bring my own djembe drums and djundjuns and can provide enough for 30 or more at a time.

HERE ARE SOME RECOMMENDATIONS FROM PAST CLIENTS WHO ARE ALSO REGULAS POSTERS ON TES:

     SECONDARY

“We have had b.ayengio doing a drumming workshop today and it was really, really good. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone in the Yorkshire area.” Posted by Dumbartonoaks 26/1/07

     SECONDARY

“She came with her own drums, and did two workshops, one with GCSE and A Level students and one with KS3. Both workshops were really good, and appropriate for the needs of the pupils. The pupils are already badgering me to know when she's coming again!

Not bad in a very deprived down area where the overwhelming attitude is complete apathy.

I would thoroughly recommend!” Posted by Dumbartonoaks   2/2/07

     PRIMARY/SECONDARY

"I have just spent the last 15 minutes with children raving about the African drumming workshop we've just had with Drums Agogo (b.ayengio’s business name).
They were an able group of year 7s, plus an invited group of year 6s from another local school.
They had a brilliant time - quickfire and entertaining.
I thoroughly recommend a booking - I shall certainly be making this an annual workshop at my school." Posted by BakewellTart  16/11/07

    PRIMARY

“B.ayengio came to my primary school in Leeds at the start of November and the kids loved it! They have also just been to a high school near Wakefield where I live and have their photograph with them in the local paper - the children love the workshops, no matter what their age/ability. I would say to anyone to go for it and get them in!”   Posted by MusicMiss 13/12/07

     AND FINALLY:

"1 day spent in an African Drumming Workshop with genuine djembes (1 each!) and a totally practical approach achieved more than us trying to teach 'African Drumming' to Year 8 for 1/2 a term. The circumstances were different, and pupils hand picked (an attempt, for once, to reward the 'always good' ones), but nevertheless, they learned, and achieved such a lot." I am based in Yorkshire and can travel anywhere within a 100 mile radius. Please e-mail for a quotation to come to your school. You will find me very affordable. Thanks for your interest.

I have recently held an arts day and had the task of trying to find an African drumming workshop visiting artist. If any of you need one go to www.drumsagogo.co.uk . The leader is amazing with the kids and differentiates brilliantly. I am based in Nottinghamshire and she travelled from harogate. Would highly recommend to anyone looking into this topic.

    Hi, giraffe,

I travel up to 100 miles. Broadly speaking, that's Yorkshire and all surrounding counties. Where are you?

I have just finished devising some new workshops with a South African focus that will tie in nicely with with next term's World Cup fever!
