Do any of you get offers of help from your LSAs during the summer break?

I don't even go into school during the holidays so I certainly wouldn't expect non-teaching staff who aren't contracted to be there to do so.

OP, do you realise that the vast majority of LSA's are paid term time only so if any were kind enough to go in during the holidays they would not be paid for it.

And their pay is a joke. I would NEVER expect a Learning Assistant to go into school during the holidays. In fact, I'd think they were off their heads if they did.

I don't expect it at all, nor would I be in the least put out if help was not offered.

Don't go into school at all during the holidays??  Wow.

LSA pay is worked out as a percentage of the time they are actually in pupil contact from the 37 hr week standard council week (in our authority 27 hrs, to include one after-school meeting per week).  Then all the holidays bar four weeks and statutory (which usually fall during school holidays anyway) are taken off.  Then lunch breaks, which vary from school to school are taken off.

What is left is divided by twelve and paid as a salary.

Explain to me why, on what amounts to under £10K a year, an LSA would be making an appearance in school during the hoidays?

I don't go in either. Apart from the two in-service days before the pupils come back.

I never go in either. Funny how the posters who have posted about not going in are all based in Scotland!

My wonderful TA offered to come in and we had a very productive day of it. I really appreciated her help, I think it depends on the TA, I had another TA who helped at INSET but didn't offer in holidays. In the past I had a wonderful TA who always offered but I think it's the 'old school' ones who go the extra mile that do. However I wouldn't expect them to, the're not paid enough!
