I am trying to build up a list of things that NQT's / GTP's / Student teachers should look for when observing lessons... So far I have:

    • Classroom presence
    • Behaviour management
    • Use of appropriate sanctions
    • Delivery of lesson
    • Questioning
    • Seating plan
    • Subject knowlege
    • Familiarity with texts used
    • Rapport with students
    • Use of support staff
    • Pace of lesson
    • Quaility of resources
    • Appropriate resources
    • Differentiation (SEN & G&T)
    • Control of start & end of lesson, entrance & exit
    • Use of praise & reward

Anything else you can think of?

One of the things I remember from my probation was that I didn't pay enough attention when observing good teachers because I would get too caught up in the lesson from a pupil point of view.

Sorry - but should this be on Personal? Sounds more like Professional Development to me.

Probably more traffic here, though. I'm sure if people would rather chat about cats or handbags there will be plenty of opportunity.

maddie is making the most of the high volume of traffic on here. Many of us don't mind helping out with her requests at all.

I for one have never been over to the professional development forum but am on here every day.

Look out for the ways in which teachers deal with misbehaviour, particularly how they talk to individual pupils.

    Top 2:

The children working, not the teacher performing

A wide range of very skilful questionning
