    Hi!

I have recently become a 'Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator'...

I was wondering if anyone has any advice with regards to where I start, what should I particulary focus on (strategy wise) and ideas to move the school forward around this particular subject area!

Your thoughts and comments would be appreciated!

Hi, Where's your school at with it? Do you have a register in place? Have you looked at the IQS to evaluate where your school is? How do your staff feel about it? does everyone understand what it is?

     Hi!

    Thanks for the reply!

Our school does have a register. All departments have registers too. I havent looked at IQS but will as would be useful to know what I/we need to do in order to progress. Staff are all supportive and positive, which is good! I have created an audit for all staff to fill in so that I can find out what everyone's perception on G&T is... I am sure the audits and answers will differ but that is bound to happen because of the varied departments/subject areas.

Have you spoken to students? Student voice for example on their understanding of G&T?

Also have you looked at currently working at levels and grades? G&T should be targte grade A* so see if any are under achieving/under aspiring.

Have been wondering about this lately too - what do schools called their G&T pupils if not 'gifted'. Am thinking of making some changes to our policy, and I know G&T has become politically incorrect but to be honest, i'm stuck for a better title....any ideas?

We make a point of not labelling the students as anything to them.  Our policy is 'Policy for promoting high aspirations'.

I agree... They need to be provided for but in a subtle way - otherwise they will end up being alienated by the other students. G&T students from looking at our register tend to be vunerable. Other students do not need more reason to pick on them. I may address our school policy along a similar title to your schools.
