Hi all, I wonder if anyone can help...

I am in the process of applying for a number of jobs through MJS and haven't yet heard back from any...

Does anyone know how long I should realistically expect to wait before assuming I've been unsuccessful - or does MJS update your status from 'Submitted' to 'Unsuccessful' or 'Declined' if you haven't been called for an interview?

    Many thanks!

     Hey!

I would say if 10-14 days after the closing date has passed and you haven't heard, then it would be fair to assume you've been unsuccessful.  As far as I'm aware, MJS doesn't change your status - I think seeing the words unsuccessful would be a tad demoralising (certainly after the number of jobs I've applied for and have got nowhere with!)

    Hey,

So it sounds like we are in the same boat.  Do you know where we can get any example answers as it would appear the answer I give are not what they are looking for to get an interview!!

I have always received an email stating I was unsuccessful- a generic message entitled 'confidential.' If successful you receive a 'progress to next stage' email. This can be sent anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months after the closing date!

At last count I'd applied for about a dozen jobs through the delightful MJS so feeling reasonably confident when I say....

Permanent jobs in a specific school - called to interview within a week, rejection takes 2 -3 weeks.

Generic/supply - anything from 2 weeks to still waiting 3 months later for a rejection after interview....

Thanks so much for all of your responses.  I agree with nordanses... I recently got called for an interview (four days after closing), while it took twenty four days to be rejected from a neighbouring Authority a few weeks back!  Glad to know I'm not the only one feeling frustrated!

"Permanent jobs in a specific school - called to interview within a week, rejection takes 2 -3 weeks."

This is not my experience (and I too have applied for several jobs on MJS). It can take up to 2 weeks for HT and PTs to get together and go through applications depending on the number of candidates. If they are being fair and open then they do read them all carefully and don't just flick through and randomly choose some to interview.

I saw how seriously selection for interview was taken at both of my previous schools. The quality of applicants for posts was so high they had trouble selecting about a third of the large number of applicants to interview. I dare say there are other HTs and PTs who adopt a less professional approach to selection for interview but that has not been my experience at all.

One of my rejection emails arrived nearly 3 months after the closing date! Some I didn't even hear back from. This year I have been luckier and got through to an interview!

Echo some of previous posts: rejections (which has been the vast vast majority of my experience of the past year) can take up to 2 months. The quickest was a few days. When you are accepted you receive an email telling you to go to the next stage, usually a link to a site where you select your interview time. I've applied at a number of schools where they know me pretty well and have done supply work with but I got nowhere. One school got my application and called me direct to ask me come in and do supply the next day and I ended up being there for a month! They didn't give me an interview though. Generally it would seem that most NQT and those from recent years have ended up either with 'something' usually by chance or by previous knowledge of a school and all arranged outwith MJS, have moved to England or overseas, left teaching or have disappeared. I suspect there is a dark room somewhere crammed full of unemployed and depressed teachers who just can't face rejection anymore, who huddle together in some nameless darkened corner of regret hoping that one day they might, just might, be offered a short term RCCT contract at St.Smellies School of Disrespectful and Obnoxious Children. I may have gone a little of topic there......
