Hi guys, haven't visited the forum for a while, but I really wanted to share my good news.

As a CS, rewards are often few and far between from up above. (SLT & Head) Before we broke up I was informed that my wages will go up to £13.20 an hour when I'm covering classes! I was getting £11.70, I didn't even ask for it! Surprised

    One very happy CS. Party

Yeah....and you're still getting half of what I get.  Congratulations on the pay rise - but you are still being used as cheap labour, as well as preventing qualified, experienced teachers doing the job they spent many years training for.  You're also wrecking kids' education, but hey, what the hell!

    Best wishes

One very pissed off supply teacher.

I understand your frustrations but please do not come on here attacking others. Cheap shots are pathetic.

Well of course I'm getting half of your wage, I'm not a teacher!!! Cheap labour as a teacher but not so cheap a a CS!! I am not wrecking anyones education, why would you think that?

Wind your neck in, I was looking for a compliment from fellow CS's not a tongue lashing from a supply teacher/teacher!!

Jesus can't you just be happy for others, I don't plan the lessons because I'm not qualified to!! I know my place and at £13.20 p/h I'm sure it's apparent to even you who is obviously so high and above me!!!

    Confused

Well I didn't expect that this thread would need a defence, thank you to D chap and garden lover, WOW we won't live and let live, we should argue amongst ourselves... not! It's a good job that I am too ignorant to be insulted. I think I will close my account, I didn't join to be insulted by others, thank you to the CS's on CS's forum!!! Crying

Good for you RWB, not every teacher is annoyed about your good luck.

£13.20 per hour sounds a generous salary, by my calculations for a 7.5 hour day that equals £99 per daywhich is comparable to an agency daily rate for a supply teacher these days.  Although direct dealing with a school does pay a lot more (if you can get it).

I'm not going to enter the CS/teacher war.  CSs are only earning a living like everyone else the aurguement is between those working in Education (of whatever role) and the Government's attempts to dumb it down.

Shame that they could spend that on somebody qualified!

Most CSs get paid for lesson time only (unless they do other roles on top, which is often paid at a different rate to reflect it) which is a max of 25 hours per week, 5 hours per day is £66.  This is considerably less than a supply teacher, so you can see why it makes financial sense for schools.

I've loved my job as a CS but have been highly aware of the politics surrounding it (thankfully I've had an incredibly supportive school who values everything that I've done), but while the job exists there will be people there to do it, and many people that are blooming good at it too, why is it CSs are given a bad rap when there are plenty of bad teachers that shouldn't be in schools, but it's difficult to get rid of them - they are the ones actually taking the jobs from the unemployed teachers.

Cover supervisors posts were created to pamper to the full time teachers who felt they were being disadvantaged because they had to loose some of their free lessons to cover other teachers classes. With not enough funds to go around the a U TURN was taken by the government to engage non teaching staff to do this cover work instead of using the bank of qualified professionals that were available for work. In 2002 the government promised to have a graduate teacher in front of every class. A BIG UTURN. Not your fault you happen to have one of these positions but they are considered to be education on the cheap. Like it or not this is what we have until another pamper session is considered worth changing the system .............yet again.
