les25paul:£13.20 per hour sounds a generous salary, by my calculations for a 7.5 hour day that equals £99 per daywhich is comparable to an agency daily rate for a supply teacher these days. Although direct dealing with a school does pay a lot more (if you can get it).
Most CSs get paid for lesson time only (unless they do other roles on top, which is often paid at a different rate to reflect it) which is a max of 25 hours per week, 5 hours per day is £66. This is considerably less than a supply teacher, so you can see why it makes financial sense for schools. I've loved my job as a CS but have been highly aware of the politics surrounding it (thankfully I've had an incredibly supportive school who values everything that I've done), but while the job exists there will be people there to do it, and many people that are blooming good at it too, why is it CSs are given a bad rap when there are plenty of bad teachers that shouldn't be in schools, but it's difficult to get rid of them - they are the ones actually taking the jobs from the unemployed teachers.
