    Can you help?

I have an interview soon for an SLT role and as I've not taught in Scotland for a few years now, I need to brush up on my acronyms ASAP.

I would be really grateful for a list starting with the absolute basics. I would be even more grateful if someone could translate these into the similar acronym counterpart used in England

BTW: Hope I don't appear like a typical English sports commentator, always needing to use some sort of English comparator.

I can give you a start with the basics: CfE aka ACE = A Curriculum for Excellence -the new curriculum 5-14 -the old curriculum AifL -Assessment is for Learning (you might have that in England too?) Also you'll need to know the 4 capacities (and other such things) or CfE: Responsible Citizens Effective Contributors Successful Learners Confident Individuals

Is it primary or secondary? PPA is called McCrone (after the bod who recommended it!).

They will be interested in active learning and cross-curricular learning which was all the rage in England a few years ago - not sure if it's still the case!

AifL is what AfL was in England - peer/self-assessment etc.

LTS = Learning and Teaching Scotland (might be worth looking at their website - google LTScotland) publish a lot of curriculum guidance/design stuff.

GLOW is a national educational intranet-type arrangement, to which staff and pupils can contribute. HTs always think it's great if their kids can contribute a video, photo etc to GLOW.

In Secondary, if you are asked to cover another class it's known as a "please take".

    PT=Principal teacher

HMIE: Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Education = OFSTED

Will add more as they come to mind!

I forgot GLOW! Don't know how I managed that. Before an interview have a quick read of the Building the Curriculum series (just the overviews will do) available on LTScotland.

    Hello,

I found this a long time ago:

    http://www.east-ayrshire.gov.uk/ess/education/Jargon%20Buster.pdf

It's aimed at parents but it has everything listed and what it stands for.

    young pretender:

    Thanks for your prompt kibosh.

Sorry Embarrassed. I was being a bit premature and unfair. I am glad to see that you're not one of the newish posters who come on here, bleed everyone dry for info, advice, feedback etc and then *** off without so much as a follow-up post, bye or thank you.

Thanks everyone. I had my interview the other day and despite not getting the job, it went well. I mentioned CLD, CLAN and HGIOS with confidence.

Think I may have got PLP wrong though. Personal Learning Profile? Pupil Learning Plan? Have no idea what I said.

Thanks for your prompt replies as ever. The booklet is especially useful

    Cheers
