Hello I am just looking for a bit of advice on timescales from people who have previously applied through EM Direct for GTP placement. I have applied in the first round by the deadline with a good supporting school. Does anyone know when you can expect to hear back either way and when the first round of interviews take place if successful? I will be applying for other providers but EM Direct have a great number of places. They also have 3 application deadlines so I was wondering if they try to split the places across the 3 groups. I will have all my applications in by the end of the week but have seen some people that did not get interviewed until March/April the following year! Is there any chance of hearing back by Christmas? If anyone has taken this route and can provide any advice it would be much appreciated. Thanks! J

    Hello there

I am currently doing a GTP with EM Direct- It is great so fingers crossed for you.

I applied in October last year and was offered an interview early December. It took a while to hear and then it was quite last minute. We didn't hear if we had been successful at interview until the end of March (4 months aagh!). It was a really long wait due to the change in government and them not letting providers know how many places they had. Last year they had 2 rounds of applications as they had more places than anticipated so the second round were interviewed at Easter time.

My guess is that you will be interviewed before christmas if your application is successful, however you might not find out if you have a place for a while after that.

If you need any more advice then please send me a message and I'll do my best to help.

    Jem

Hi Jem Thanks for getting back to me. Wow 4 months sounds like a nervy wait! Congratulations for getting on. As I'm currently in full time employment I am trying to use my holidays to further my school experience. However I also need to hold a few days back in case of interview etc... so just trying to find out when it would be. Fingers crossed for before Christmas! I don't want to get ahead of myself and think I have got an interview yet, but out of interest what was the general structure of the interview day and what level are the tests? I have heard there is a 1 hour interview, a short presentation on a subject, some reading and a role play, as well as the English, maths & science tests. Is this correct? Thanks again for your advice!

Kind of- its a difficult day. 1. Group task looking at communication and teamwork etc. 2. Maths and English test probably gcse foundation 3. Lesson starter with the interviewers playing as kids. 4. Interview by yourself. It started at 9.30 n ended at about 4.30 so was a really long day.

Thanks for the reply Merlin. Its a real shame that you had to leave the course. I hope things get better for you and your family.

Hi! I've also applied to EM and still not heard anything, so I'm just wondering if you've had a response yet? I don't think my nerves can take much more!

I haven't heard from EM direct but had an interview last week for a GTP in lincolnshire but not heard back from that. Someone else I know who is applying for GTPs said they got a letter from one telling them that the funding and stuff might be changing because of the government so might have to wait until January to be sorted out. If one has said that I'm guessing a lot of the others may be in the same situation so might explain why it's taking so long.

All I've had from EM direct is an email saying they had received my application.

Oh thanks for that Sarah.  I feel a bit better now!  Good luck and I'll perhaps see you at interview, fingers crossed!

Hi. Yes I am in the same boat. I've only had an email reply from EM Direct acknowledging receipt of my application. I applied by the 31st October deadline and they advised that interviews would be in January if I got through. I applied to 5 providers in the end all at around the same time. I have had 2 rejections and they came back almost immediately so fingers crossed that as I havent heard from the other 3 that I may have got through. Incidentally I received 2 completely opposite reasons for rejection?!?! The first said I lacked experience (wanted 6 months classrooom - Not much chance of that for a career changer! I thought GTP's were set up for this but apparently not). My 2nd rejection stated that I had lots of experience but fell down on my statement. I have tried to include all that was requested for the statement and was quite pleased with it (and checked over by various people in the education system who agreed!) so not sure how I would have changed it. Oh well it is in now! They both advised they were massively oversubscribed with applications though so I didnt expect to get through everywhere. Just find it strange that for effectively the same position, with the same standards, I can be told that I both lack experience and have more than enough! :-) Good luck to both of you though and they did advise that interviews would be in January so hopefully hear by Christmas.
