Another supply chipping in on this :) Generally so long as a school is using CS's properly, i.e. on the day cover for a teacher that's gone sick or other short notice absence, then I don't see a problem in a school having a couple in on stand by (number being relative to school size). I've worked with some good people that have been CS's, and whilst I might not agree with a qualified teacher being a CS I wouldn't look down on them for taking the job as everyone needs to earn a living. But as others have said its the misuse of the CS that annoys us supply, and i also think it's unfair on CS's. Unless the school is genuinely unable to get a suitable qualified teacher, and assuming that the CS is happy to step up to the role of unqualified teacher for a whole, getting a CS to teach is a bit like sending a PCSO out to go and arrest people......inappropriate deployment of staff. Also it doesn't help when some CS's try and make out that they're better than supplies, likewise i know that there are supplies that will look down their noses on the CS. Personally I think the CS role is over used in some places, but that doesn't mean i think the people are bad themselves.
