I'm trying to work out if I'm being paid correctly but with the bare minimum of information on my pay slip. There is no daily rate, only hours. I've been at the school full-time since the end of September. My first pay, I took as being the low rate as it covered 6 days. Now, on my 2nd slip, it states I've worked 112 hours. So divided by 7, that makes 16 days, yes? Does this mean that I'm not being paid correctly? I should be on Grade 2 of the scale as well so divide the gross pay by the hours, it comes out as £15.63 p/h. I'm no good with numbers so if anyone could shed some light I'd be most grateful. Thank you!

Phone payroll. Only they will know what information they have received from HR about your days worked and pointage on the scale. You may have to phone HR too.

Infact, scrap that, phone HR first, find out what info they have. If it's wrong they will need to inform Payroll of the corrections, as you are not allowed to inform payroll directly. If it turns out payroll had the correct information all along, you will need to speak to someone there and ask them to talk you through your opaque payslip.

This another huge gripe of mine (I'm surprised I'm still standing under the volume of gripes I have Embarrassed); one LA I work for used to provide supply teachers with payslips where days/hours/pay/holiday pay etc were all clearly stated. It was transparent accounting and it made it easier to see if you had been diddled or not. Now this LA have brought out a new design of payslip, containing minimal information and it's impossible to tell what you have been paid for and at what rate. Funnily enough, this new payslip-opaque has been brought out to coincide with the SOD.

Now that i think about it, I might just bring this to the attention of my union. It's not on.

Problem for me is that my payslip contains no information beyonf Gross, Tax/NI and Net pay that I have zero idea:

A:  What scale I am being paid on

    and

B/ If they are paying the correct amount of hours.

This is a scam.  Really unprofessional and certainly designed to play games with professional people.  Talk about lack of respect.

£15.63 per hour is point 1. Sounds like you are being paid at the day-to-day supply rate.

Naughty LA!! Phone up and ask nicely for the back pay due IMMEDIATELY. Don't let them wait till the next payslip. If they try to give you the runaround, go to the top.

Surely if you and the LA knew your services would be needed for longer than the initial 5 days you should have been given a contract stating pay (at the full rate) and conditions from the start?

I've been deciphering the SNCT Handbook.  Am I right in thinking that short term supply teachers and those on fixed term contracts are both entitled to a maximum class contact time of 22.5 hours, even though the former only gets paid daily rate for 5 hours a day!?!

No, if you're on a fixed term you get paid at your normal point on the payscale and for 35 hrs a week.

OKay found out I am being paid 15 quid and hour. So I guess I am at 1 on the scale.

The thing is I notice it sayd ADHOC on my payslip.

Concerned re this.  Does this mean that I am being paid as adhoc supply and therefore only getting 5 hours paid a day?  Not sure how this works.

I have been at this school since I the October holidays.  prior to that I was at another school in the same authority for a few weeks.

I did recieved a little slip of paper in an envelope which indicated that I was employed "until vacancy filled".  This did not in anyway look like a contract.  It was a tiny slip of paper with some info.

If I have worked here longterm supply do I still only get paid 5 hours or more?

     It's all so convoluted.

Ring payroll. They are taking the piss. I presume you have regularly taught the same class(es) for a period of longer than 5 days. You should be paid by fixed term contract at your correct payscale point. Which authority? I have the supply "rules" for several LAs and can quote you the relevant parts if you wish.

    Sent message.

Does being paid ADHOC reduce amount of hours paid to the 5?  What number should I be paid for 7?

On pay scale I think I may be on level having taught for around a year after NQT year.

Writing ADHOC on something does not change the rules. If you are working long-term (until post is filled) in a school covering the same classes then you are to be paid for 7 hours a day. I know it's a chore but work out the number of hours you did and check it against the number you're being paid for.

On my pay slip it states the rate of pay for me on short-term (£15.63) and long-term (£16.56) and I'm a year out of probation even though I didn't work full-time all of last year. It may be however that your LA haven't put you up on the scale -not quite sure how that happens.
