At a meeting on 31st January it was decided to use the buildings at Carlton Coalville School to house the Beccles Free School, approved by the DfE, which will open in Sept 2012. Despite the considerable hurdles created by Suffolk CC the School will open it's doors on schedule. Parents in the Waveney district will have educational choice for their children as promoted by the Government. A curriculum geared to the needs of 21st century students. No interference from local politicians who have no knowledge of the mickey mouse subjects being offered in neighbouring schools to play the league table system. The Free School will provide a versatile education centred on the needs of young people living in a rural community.

Choice?   21st Century?  Versatile?   Their website says they will offer Ebacc and nothing else!

This is interesting because the meeting took place on the 31st January, yet Tony has only decided to post about it today, some 6 days later.

He could, and no doubt will, argue that this is because he is in Florida and too busy, yet he has started many other threads in the last 6 days and contributed to many other threads, some of them including discussions on the Beccles free school.

    In fact on this thread:

    http://community.tes.co.uk/forums/t/550863.aspx?PageIndex=4

he didn't seem to be aware that the people involved in the free school had met at Carlton Coalville newsagents. I alluded to it, yet he didn't seem to know what I was referring to.

It seems that Tony is now fully in the picture thanks to some other helpful posters who have provided him with links on the above thread. So much so that he now feels able to post on the matter.

It seems very odd to me that someone so "heavily involved" as Tony claims to be in the Beccles Free school doesn't seem to be aware of what is going on. Yes he is in Miami, but even when away from home it is possible to keep up with what's going on if it is pertinent to you. Tony is always telling us how fabulous his Ipad is, I wonder why he didn't use it to communicate with those at home involved in the Beccles Free school.

All this information is public knowledge, so I'm suprised it's taken Tony so long to get his hands on it. You would have thought, with his heavy involvement, he would have been one of the first to know.

Unless, of course, he is not as heavily involved in the Beccles Free school as he has led us to believe.

You haven't been telling porky pies on TES again have you Tony?

You're going to have your work cut out if you are thinking of correcting all of this crazed poster's spelling and grammar errors, seren.

I live in the Waveney district - and taught here some years ago. (Actually, my first job after qualifying was at one of three 13-18 High Schools - as they then were - in this area.....and now I have moved back and settled here)

Most of the gossip I hear from parents is that they believe that the local schools that already exist provide a well-balanced curriculum. Maybe these schools don't top the league-tables, but Beccles Free School is far from guaranteed to do much better.

The Beccles free school will be in direct competition with a school which ofsted recognised as good with outstanding features very recently. Of course Tony portrayed the local schools as hell holes with dreadful results and terrible discipline.

It seems that he and the truth rarely make contact.

    Only the obvious ones.

The original poster is quite capable of misspelling "a".
