Has anyone seen the new style of class photos, where kids 'pose' in different positions, including propping themselves up, kneeling, sitting on the floor, etc. Apparently, photos are taken in small groups, and the resulting five or six group photos are pasted together to form a 'class' photo....... Is this yet another example of dumbing down, in that children are not deemed capable of standing / sitting in formal rows for a few minutes?! Whatever next??!!

Some gimmick to keep photographers in work, perhaps? Any fool with a digital camera could now take a decent picture of 30 kids and reproduce it in high quality.

Aaaah! Maybe THAT'S the alternative career I've been seeking for so long! Thanks, Anteater!!! Got a reasonable camera, and can use microsoft photo editor quite well - or would one need Photoshop??

I certainly think the kids look cute on them, but, to me, a school photo should reflect discipline and uniformity. I love to look back over my own class photos with nostalgia / horror! Imagine a 40 / 50 / 60 + /- year old looking back at their young selves AT SCHOOL in the type of pose normally reserved for informal holiday / family snaps!!

I think it's a response to the whole 'Venture' style photograph, which is increasingly popular.  We had them done at the scholl I was in last term, and they looked great.  The weren't as informal as all that, but the ned result was charming, and affectionate, showed a reflection of the relationships within the class - and everyone looked good!  (including me!  Which was a turn up for the books!)  I believe they ahve the traditional pics too.

My own children's school have the traditional style pics only - and I have yet to buy one.  They are hideous - particularly as I have three mad-as-frogs children who seem to be pathologically unable to either smile at the same time, or look in the same direction! In the end, after bleating from the grandparents about the lack of a group pic of them, I took them to the local photographers, who stood them in front of a white background, let them play, and took a serious number of beautiful photos. It was a hard job deciding which ones to give!!

Hate, hate, hate them. My school insists on getting these photographers in again and again. I detest having my photograph taken anyway, and then I am made to strike a silly pose with my class. To make it even worse, they do the staff photo this way too.

A couple of years ago, they made the staff take their shoes off (presumably to protect their white sheet thing) and I was wearing stupid socks that I hadn't planned on showing the world. My toes weren't exactly up to high definition digital scrutiny either. Gahhhhhh!

I'm already planning my sick day for the next one.

Thats's the current standard for all group/family photograph sessions by a pro-photographer.

I really like them. I have to admit though I take my shoes off for no one. I wear 4-5 inch heels. If I took my shoes off people would realise what a shortarse I really am.
