Get advice on all aspects of teaching in Wales in the TES Cymru Group. This is the place to go to discuss the Welsh curriculum, to talk to other teachers about pay and conditions and to chat about the issues facing education in Wales.
I'm moving to Wales and looking for schools in North Wales. Have downloaded the framework and national curriculum for wales, but wondered what I should be including in my plans for English. Has anyone got an exemplar plan that I could use?
Are you one of the lucky ones that has a job?
In my authority, the English advisors have done the long term overviews with skills and range. Each school then adapts its plans according to need. We use County's skills topic plans and adapt to suit our needs. English is taught through topi so we really don't have separate English lessons-it fits in with the topic but the English skills taught are put on plans.
For example-Y5 are doing 'Daily life in 19th Century' so the plans for the week will have which skills are being taught, practised, reinforced for that week.
Hope this helps, it sounds complicated reading back but it all fits together-honestly :-)
Thank you Tracy Blue. No, I haven't got a job, but I have had three interviews, obviously didn't get them, but if I get another I want my plan to reflect the Welsh national curriculum - not the English (which I have done). I'm in secondary too, which might make a difference. Anyhoo, my hunt still goes on...
Thanks again for the information, though
Good luck with getting into wales, I moved from England 4 years ago and although we're poor, I'm a lot happier, particularly with the ethos of support from LA and other schools rather than the competition in England.
I would you suggest you look at this document
particularly p.26 which is the rationale inspectors use when observing lessons.
Thanks for that Tracy - will definitely have a good look at it
