Any views? It's going to be a lot of work and very time consuming!
Indeed. And the statutory written report to parents after the 6 week baseline period - will that count as the child's written report for the year? We are only meant to write one, after all.
Goodness me, this forum is as dead as a doornail!
I'm here!!
I haven't heard anything about the new baseline since it was trialled...what do you know? I'm getting worried about the report part, already struggling to keep up with paperwork.
The reason everything is quiet about the new baseline is that WAG have yet to produce training materials! All that seems certain is that the minister is not going to back down on the expectation that it starts in September! Will make for a very rushed training programme for schools in the Summer Term.
Indeed!
I have seen the "draft" materials. They appear not to have changed since the pilot was undertaken during the last Summer Term, despite all our comments regarding the amount and detail of observation expected.
So the materials from WAG are now in schools. And it's just as bad as it first looked.
YES! Looking forward for the training next month...or shall I say not looking forward to it.
It will be two written reports to the parents in one year now, if the child enters in autumn/spring.
We've training on it soon, why was the pilot feedback ignored? I agree baseline needed changing but I can't get my head around the book at all yet! Happy times ahead!
Training tomorrow, should be interesting!!!
Had ours. Its going to be a nightmare!
Especially this year where we are going to have to use the new materials to assess the rising threes as they enter, this years Nursery 2 (September's Reception) and this year's rising threes (September's Nursery 2).
Very interesting training day had this week, lots of moans and groans especially from the nursery teachers with 2 full nursery classes = 60 reports to write by the end of Autumn term! No non-contact given either.
We've been told to complete the baseline in Reception but no reporting to parents like the Nursery.
We had an email read out to us which was sent to LEA from WAG saying that we must report to September's parents.
We will be copying and pasting comments taken from the descriptors. It will not sound personal.
We had our training last week.
lots to organise for September - I'll be teaching Reception so it will be a good way to get to know them. Bit stupid of them really not to link the Outcomes in tho!!!!! just got used to the outcomes
we assess and report to the steps on entry but at the end of the year report in outcomes grrrrr! but no end of year baseline not even at end of year 2. not entirely sure about it all but I'm sure we'll get the hang of it. anyone else had training recently?
Do you report on outcomes for every end of year report? We only do this for yr 2.
Hiya, we write our reports from the outcomes, I think most shcools do now.
Yup. It is such an immense amount of work. I foresee the first 6 weeks doing no "focussed" tasks but all baseline assessments.
