Am really stuck as to what to write for this child. They have made very little progress this year purely down to attendance (which the parents believe has been totally justified) Has anyone had a similar report to write? I don't want it to sound negative but I can not say that this girl has made the progress that she could/should have. Thanks x
Is she over five? If she is, her absences will presumably have been noted and investigated by the HT. There's no reason you should pussy-foot about this in her report.
Hi, she has just turned 5 so it can only be investigated from now onwards. September to now have been pretty much a write off.
You could write something along the lines of "**** will get more out of his/her time in school if he/her attends more often." Even if the child is not of statutory school age this would be true.
I have got the same problem at the moment. I have got a child who has missed a lot of days and is always coming into school late. I have talked to the parents and they had every excuse under the sun as to why she is absent/late. She has gone backwards the past few weeks because she has been late/absent so much and all I have said to the parents is don't be shocked with the poor report she will be getting as she has missed too much school.
The parents have promised to be a lot better so fingers crossed and I am just waiting to see what happens
Just be honest - it will not do the child or parents any favours to sugar coat the situation. I would agree with other comments on here. I have commented about parents weeping at the door as they leave their child, lateness and poor attendance on reports in the past. None of these things help the child settle and make progress and thats what its all about! Harsh I know but better to give them a wake up call earlier in their education rather than later.
