hi
can anyone help me, a year one colleague wants to share our reception outdoor area and rota in adults saying that we will then always be able to have an adult outside.
I have my black hat on for this for various reasons, not least health and safety and the sheer number of children to adults but also that my reception children will need priority for outdoor provision and early years adults need to be outside to observe etc. I feel the current year R children have already had full outdoor provision and most have reached point 6 this year and beyond so I am protecting my new intake and making sure they have the equipment and space they need.
can anyone give me ideas how they manage yr r and yr 1 or say if they think I am not thinking about this in the right way? any help and advice would be great .
thank you all very much for your input.
We swop classrooms with year 1 one afternoon a week so the foundation children get the chance to see what is in the yr1 room ready for next year and the yr1 children get to be outside if they want. Our yr1 is still very much playbased learning though, so they have different choosing areas as well as the usual tables and chairs for sit down work.
This works really well as it gives all staff and children a change and also gives the foundation children a bit of a challenge to use the resources in yr1.
the year ones are allowed to use our outside area in the sfternoons say 130 -230 the deal we have is that i set it up and they put away , works for me !!
But the problem is the difference in the behaviour and the way they play with the resources can be very different and at times over powering .
