Has anyone done a really good RE lesson on this bible story in a Year 1 class?
Any ideas appreciated.
Alternatively does anyone know of any good RE websites which have lesson plans on them?
I'll be covering the story in RE this term relating to the concept of dilemma, but with Y5, so it's hard to give you specifics, but a good way to go might be thinking about the idea of making the right decision, given that the two previous chaps who came along (sorry, need to brush up on my bible facts) hurried on their way, considering their safety, whereas the GS chose to help.
Maybe think of a few situations that you can discuss the making the correct decision, possibly with a bit of role-play? Maybe make up their own situations? Discuss character's thoughts and feelings at different stages of the decision making?
That seems too hard for Year 1, though. Perhaps you ought to go to the roots of the parable and ask the children questions like, 'Who is your neighbour?' and 'Who helps you and who do you help in your life?' You can't go wrong with acting out the story, perhaps taking photos of each scene for display.
