Best Practices: Storing student files

  • post reply
Good afternoon, I'm trying to learn more about the procedures that boarding/secondary schools use in regards to file management. Do most schools keep all of their students files on a protected server, or are a lot of schools keeping files solely in the cloud? I work for a paperless school, so definitely looking to keep that in mind. Thanks for any input on the subject!

I would always recommend that they are on a protected server and backed -up offsite.  The issue with the cloud is that it can be very unclear as to where the data is stored.  For Data Protection it should be within the EEA, otherwise Data Protection laws do not apply in the same way.

Some LAs offer centralised hosting for MIS which includes document storage and backup.  In the current climate many LAs are looking to extebnd their client base so could be a good time to buy in to some LA services.
