Debate the Curriculum for Excellence and all aspects of the Scottish curriculum in this Group. This is also the place to get advice from your peers on the most effective way to implement the curriculum
I am just finishing my first year post probation and am begining to think about next year. I taught an advertising unit focusing on persausive language and multi-modal texts to S2 which they really enjoyed and produced some brilliant analysis. When doing some language work with a low ability Int 2 they became really interested in some aspects of language.I would like to consider offering this as an option (probably at Int2) level to maximise their opportunity and because I have found that shorter texts including media have worked well with lower abilty pupils.
I have had a look at the past papers and there always seems to be a question on persuasive language in one guise or another. However when I looked on Understanding Standards there were no exemplars of language essays. So I would be unsure how to structure/grade answers.
Has anyone used this option ? Does anyone know where I could find exemplar essays ?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
I mark for SQA at Int 2 level, and came across a few language answers this year. The essays were rather poor quality, and lacked any real depth of analysis or genuine insight.
This may simply have been the batch I received, but given the lack of SQA endorsed material, I would avoid teaching it!
