pvg scheme confusion

  • post reply

I am applying as an individual to the PVG Scheme as I am starting voluntary work at a school in August and I will also be helping at several after school activities with a different company. Do I have to apply for three different records at a price of £59 each or will they accept my own record? I have asked for help with this via their website and was directed back to their website which was no help. I would love it if someone could help me clarify exactly what I am suppose to apply for and if I need any of the organisations to sign any documents etc.

    Thank you

    My understanding is as follows:

You can apply to join the PVG Scheme as an individual and you will receive the type of disclosure known as the Scheme Membership Statement. As this is for sharing with personal employers, it does not contain vetting information.

It is obtained at the request of a personal employer or by the individual alone in anticipation of doing regulated work in the future. It costs £59 and an update is £18.

If you are working for an organisation (eg a LA) you will receive the type of disclosure known as the Scheme Record. Again it costs £59 and a Scheme Record Update is £18.

The £59 fee does not apply to voluntary work for a qualifying voluntary organisation.

There are no set rules on who pays and payment can be made by either the individual, or the organisation or the personal employer.

The purpose of the PVG Scheme is to streamline the disclosure process by avoiding the need for multiple applications. The information held on each member is automatically updated so that any new organisation, or personal employer, need only pay £18 for a Scheme Record Update.

So, if you are starting voluntary work at a school in August, the organisation will need to obtain a Scheme Record, or a Scheme Record Update, and it should be free.

If you are also helping out at several after school activities with a different organisation, they will have to obtain a Scheme Record, or a Scheme Record Update, on your behalf. If the work is voluntary, it should be free.

I hope this information helps. If I have misunderstood something, I'm sure someone will point it out.
