I feel unhappy about returning to school this year and have never felt like this before - perhaps it's down to these: - new 'curriculum' - ambiguity at every turn - glow - p!sh - OTWL - why has nobody here voiced concerns - where are we supposed to find the time for this? - national4/5 - ambiguity/no direction - I have never heard "support" come out so agggressively from someone's mouth as it did from mike russell's - very aggressive .... Hmmmmmmmmmmmm

I wouldn't get too worked up at the new curriuclum, it has been rushed through and teachers can only do their best within the time available.  If SMT/councils insist on new developments they have to come up with development days

Make sure you have every support document / past paper / NAB downloaded for your subject current arrangements (SG, H and Ints) before they are switched off on the LTS/SQA website - most will still be useful.  As there is no money to properly write new courses much of what we currently teach is still gonna be taught.

Out of curiosity - what's OTWL?

I remember you saying a while back, Cochrane, that you had trilevel classes in S3. I find myself in the same situation. What are you doing about unit assessments? I don't have time to spend making them up only for it all to change when NAR is populated. The children I feel really sorry for are the Nat 3 pupils having to work at Nat 5 pace... and no it is not possible to cater properly for every level in one class (maybe it is easier in non-practical subjects).

We are tempted to ask for an HD camcorder and assess thru the medium of mime! Hearing that SQA are llooking to move away from traditional assessment so we should take them at their word and overwhelm the system with poems, plays, mime, rap and filmed presentations.

You are not alone, but I decided that I can only do what I can do and promised myself I wouldn't get stressed about it.  Then I had first day back today.  My first task was to reflect on results and contemplate what I can do (more) to raise attainment!!  When looking at my Int 1 results and taking into account that there is no external exam just the same performance criteria year in year out I couldn't fathom why 3 pupils did not gain the A's predicted - ah the SQA raised the grade band by 3 marks - too many kids working too hard this year = too many A's - my reflection I should have presented them with last year’s cohort!! And so the madness and stress begins - so much for resolutions.
