Regrets... I've had a few...

  • post reply

My biggest regret with regards my career was not selecting to go the Chartered Teacher Route. I went the PT route and now my authority are getting rid of the majority of PTs in Primary Schools. So after 3 years of conserved salary I go back to class teacher salary. If I had gone CT my salary would have been safe and the government would have funded me to finish my masters. So to quote Connie Francis...Who's Sorry Now!

    How bout you?

CT is being scrapped. I doubt salaries will be safe.

CT salaries are "safe" for the moment and will increase as per mainscale (for the moment) (1% in April.)

Yeah, I bet there are loads of PTs who thought their salaries were safe under the moves to Faculty Heads.

I doubt that anything in the contract is safe in the current climate. The employer is out for blood, and the SOD established  that pretty much anything can be targeted for demolition with minimal protest from the rank and file.

Hmmm. I can understand your regrets. However, all is not yet lost. The SNCT recently circularised local authorities re this issue. Employers had to indicate how many PTs were involved and (this is the important bit) whethermplansmwere being put in place to manage the situation. The kind of plans which should be discussed on your LNCT are ... Severance packages Ring fencing appointments of future promoted posts for conserved PTs Guaranteed interviews for conserved PTs It would be invidious if CTs were treated in one way and conserved PTs were treated in another , simply on the basis of a decision made, in good faith, a decade ago. Get in touch with your local union secretary.

I know of one PT who has been on conserved salary for 11 years and decided to do CT last year to "not lose money" when it all gets even in 2016 - they are too late, shame..............not

I'm glad this conserved pay is being stopped. Sorry if I sound bitter - I am, as the fachead nonesense blocked any chances of promotion I had. I did my CT in good faith to enhance my teaching; I didn't finish it (I'm a slow worker!) but have a few steps up the ladder, and I believe I'm more effective than said conserved PT (Embarrassed oops! I sound like subman now about his tutor time/pastoral care role)
