How to resign from Probatioanry year?

  • post reply

     Hi,

Does anyone know the procedure to go through to resign from probationary year? This has been the year from hell and I am now ready to leave. I never thought I would hate teaching but I hate it with a passion now.

I can 't help with the resignation procedure (sorry!), but just think you should enjoy your holiday and have a think at the start of the new term. You've put in a lot of work to end up without the qualification!

Would a change of school help? The LA can help with that. Your probationer supporter at the LA is there to help you.

Could your school supporter do more to help? Is there anyone who can share your burden a bit?

I have a probationer teacher in my next door class and I know that I've really tried to help her and I'm sure there's someone at your school who would do the same!

Honestly, the next 2 term pass really quickly (esp after easter) and at least you'd have the letters after your name! You'll know how dire the job situation is so the reality for all probationers is that there's probably not a class job awaiting. I guess what I mean is that you don't need to feel 'stuck' in a job you don't enjoy.

Please take your time and think.....................

And if you want to share a bit more, I'm a good listener!

It gets easier after Christmas. I think you can just give 4 weeks notice, like any other employee. It may be less since you've only been with your employer a few months. Talk things over with your uni tutor, PT or HT before making any irreversible decisions.

Also, I know of two probationers who were moved school in March/April of their probationary year, due to rubbish treatment from their school (both had failed their interim report), started in a new school for the last term and passed. All might not be lost and it seems like a shame to chuck everything when you can get help.

I've just left my probation year. You just hand in your 4 weeks notice like any other job. I hated my school. My LA refused to move me. I failed at Xmas. If you leave you can still complete registration on the flexible route. You can also come back to it later if you decide and reregister. There are plenty of jobs you can do with a PGDE. Good luck hope things improve for you whatever you decide
