New teachers in Scotland get together in the TES Scotland Probationers Group to discuss career options, to give jobseeking advice and to share their experiences. This is also the place to find a shoulder to cry on if you’re having a tough time.
Hey i am recently qualified teacher graduating in Australia i am waiting my GTCS registration and i assuming i am goin to be granted probationairy status and being a Scottish citizen who has studied overseas(1 year PGDE) i am not entitlled to a probationairy year(there goes all me previous scottish taxes). I have been offered a 3 month contract at 0.6 no one at my school seems to know what pay rate i would i start on as this is the alternate route even HR they are makin phone calls, can anyone offer experiences along a similar situation of part time alternate rout pay?
I odn't know why HR would have to think twice. You'd be paid at point 1 on the payscale. Your hourly rate would be 1/1827 of this. If you have a 3 month contract you will be paid for 7 hours a day.
airyThe alternative route starts at 1 because you don't have the reduced timetable of a probationer.
This would be a logical assumption, but I did the alternative route and unfortunately that also starts at Point 0, unless you have some sort of prior teaching experience (eg in another country or private school) that would convince them to put you up one on the scale.
I am very sorry, I meant to type point 0!!! No idea how I managed to post 1.

Most of my alternative route pay was at point 0.
I have just completed my probationary period on the flexible route and worked for 270 days being paid at Point 0 of the payscale. Also I advise you to spend a lot of your spare time on the Probationer Scotland website: for every 20 days in total that you spend in a school you have to complete an interim profile and send it to the GTCS so that you are credited with the days.
It is hard going doing it on the flexible route; but you learn loads!!
I am trying to complete via the flexible route.I have done all the days, but I am struggling to find a school to sign me off - any suggestions?
Regarding pay- supply teachers on single days are supposed to be paid at point 1 of the scale..just hope no one in the office spots you should be below that ?
Awesome, this was a absolutely superior post. In approach I'd like to address like this too - demography time and absolute accomplishment to accomplish a acceptable article... but what can I say... I adjourn alot and never assume to get something done. -------------------------------------------Yüz Germe
