Do we have the right to go to interviews?

  • post reply

Hi, I was just wondering where we stand as probationers in terms of having the right to attend an interview? For instance if I were to attend an interview which would involve a day's worth of travel would I be entitled to have the time off? Just want to know my rights in regards to this in the hope that I may actually get an interview! Thanks! Smile

I think the specifics vary from council to council.  I know that my council has a policy that says teachers are entitled to either a half day or full day off for an interview, depending on how far it is to travel, but it's not clear how many days in advance you have to ask or how many days off you can have.

I would google it (that's how I found our policy) and see what comes up.

Yes, you have the right to attend an interview. Most LAs won't dock you pay either unless you have loads of them.
