I read the article too. The timing surprised me as I thought that the McCormac recommendations would be discussed in the negotiations with the SG and unions. Personally I thought CT's would get a remit of some form although it will be interesting to see if Russell offers any form of compensation for those who have laid out their hard earned to pay for the university fees.

So what happens to the folk who already are CTs or those who were APTs or Senior Teachers are we all to be downgraded?

It's not the cost of the scheme or even the thousands of hours we spent achieving CT but the life changing effect the journey had on all of us. Do we simply accept we need to deskill and comply?

Agreed. Only mass activism on our part - as articulately as possible - will help. The Conference on Saturday should be attended by as many of us as possible. I look forward to it.

No-one knows what will happen to CTs or those who were APTs or STs and put on the CT grade, that's why it's vital that as many CTs as possible attend the ACTS conference this year to express their views.  There may still be vacant spaces.  It's free to ACTS members and there is a cost to non members, but you can pay £25 to be a member now.  Go to http://acts.edublogs.org  for details of the conference and how to join ACTS.

 

After the main speaker there will be learning conversations where CTs and those on the route will have the chance to express their views re the future of CT, so please attend and join ACTS if you haven't already done so!

I've requested that at least part of the ACTs Conference be held online- I think this has to be open to every single one of us- including those of us not able to travel on the day.

 I'm sick and tired of the schadenfreude being displayed by the Press- and by the 'told you so' attitude of my colleagues.

 Bad enough to remove the status- but if they try to dismiss the work I've done for my region- or take the money that I more than earn, my resignation will be going in. There are jobs out there that carry a fraction of the stress of ours- and pay much more. While I'm young enough to still have a chance- I refuse to stick around and put up with the rubbish that is currently being thrown at us.

I rather think I might begin by looking at the world of politics....

My understanding from the EIS AGM and SGM was that the matter would not be unilateral. Given that the GTCS is putatively an independent body can a status confered by them simply be removed at the say so of a government official?

As for the financial aspect, I suspect any attempts in that area might be open to legal challenge. Could the Scottish Government afford all the legal tribunals on grounds of inequity in comparison to other teachers seen as surplus?

One would hope that strike action would be precipitated not on the basis that we protect CTs but on the principle that the government has acted without prior consultation or negotiation. A dangerous precedent if allowed to go unchallenged. Who or what will Mike Russell go after next thus emboldened?

WEll, he's already bagged supply staff and Conserved staff and now CT. I'd expect you'll now see a reduction in SMT and a wage freeze and a removal of employment protection....hold on, the GTCS are already doing that for him!

What has happened to conserved staff?

Loss of lifetime protection agreed by EIS last spring. Deadline is 2016 for the final curtain for conserved PTs et al.

Anyone's guess. Discussions are already taking place on SNCT working groups. Realistically, conversion to some form of promoted post with associated duties and annual confirmation by PRD in line with the much touted "re-accreditation" system. That's just my guess.
