So CT is to be axed after all. Unsure what a Masters would involve in terms of cost for the teacher and any reward received at the end of it.

“We should aspire to a vision of teaching as a masters level profession and we will do so by building on the Chartered Teacher scheme. I have therefore set the National Partnership Group the task of bringing forward proposals to deliver opportunities for teachers to work towards masters level qualifications. Chartered Teachers and those in the process of becoming Chartered Teachers should be given credit for the work that they have already undertaken and will be among the first to access these opportunities for masters qualifications.

Erm has someone failed to mention to him that the CTs who followed the programme route have a ......MASTERS DEGREE and that this degree is in advanced professional studies!

Does he really think that having already done one of them then suffered the indignity of the McCormac review that we will jump at the chance to do another one.Thumbs down

The full report is to be published tomorrow I do wonder what further gems it might contain.

It does seem somewhat odd doesn't it barbie!

Thanks for the opportunity to work towards a Master's, Mr R - when I've got it I'll, er, put it on the mantelpiece with the one I've already got.  Mind you, Professor McCutmac and yourself have deemed that one worthless so it'll be nice to have a shiny new one.

And this time, you'll be paying for it ... won't you?

we'll know one way or other tomorrow but it could possibly be a qualification leading to a place on the schools management structure where entry onto it will be at the HT's discretion, only this time existing CT's will get 1st dibbs at it after which it will be for the brown nose brigade. Either way we'll know better tomorrow....... hopefully.

Michael Russell MSP 10/2/12 Scottish Parliament The Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh, EH99 1SP Dear Mr Russell I am writing to you to express my disgust at the latest piece of contempt for education and teaching that you have visited on Scotland’s teachers and schools. Although I am wary of using words like latest as there may well be fresh contempt since you unilaterally announced the termination of the Chartered Teacher program. It is very disappointing that you have such contempt for teachers and all the work which many have undertaken over the past decade to pursue Chartered Teacher that you can, on what I see as a whim, tear up a tripartite agreement on teachers’ career structure. Many teachers have spent years studying to improve their skills and understanding at their own expense to pursue a career path through Chartered Teacher which was and did keep experienced teachers in the classroom for a fair salary reward. You have torn up that agreement and sent a message to every teacher who took part in the Chartered Teacher program that you neither value nor care for their commitment and I am sure that message is not lost on Scotland’s entire teaching profession. As a teacher with nearly 40 years experience, but not as a Chartered Teacher, I do not think I have ever seen such disappointing behaviour towards teachers as I have seen in the past few months. From a teacher’s perspective I see commitment, from teachers, taken for granted and taken advantage of to a point that might be considered exploitation over workload. I would appeal to you to reconsider your position and reverse the decision you made on Chartered Teacher and engage in meaningful dialogue with the teaching profession on this and all other matters that effect learning and teaching. Yours sincerely Ian McCrone

What is to happen to the salary increments already given to CTs? BTW to suggest that it is being axed due to the lack of uptake is rich. We all know they are stopping it because over the next 2 years there would be a record amount doing it as those years were good for jobs before the current slide.

EIS was the only union represented at the ACTS conference and the first to post disagreement on the statement. What have SSTA and NAS/UWT to say.....?

To quote John McEnroe, "You cannot be serious!" I don't know how the EIS had the brass neck to say anything or the nerve to turn up at the ACTS conference. Remember, it was the sell out of CTs organised by the EIS leadership last spring which led to the current situation. Even before that, they had "negotiated" changes to the CT programme which allowed HTs to veto CT applications and to impose additional duties on those who were on the programme. The SSTA opposed these changes. Wake up and smell the sell out for crying out loud! However, since you seem to be singularly ill informed, let me educate you. I suggest you look here .. http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/education/unions-slam-scrapping-of-superteacher-qualification.16713253 and you'll also find a press release on the SSTA website.

Is there further clarification of the following statement anywhere?

Chartered Teachers and those in the process of becoming Chartered Teachers should be given credit for the work that they have already undertaken and will be among the first to access these opportunities for masters qualifications.

Either there is (and I will admit to not having seen it) or it indicates a politician who has failed to master his brief.

Assume nothing is done and dusted on this matter until you know for sure. I would urge everybody who is opposed to this change to get their message to the person who made the decision - Mike Russell. I don't know if letters will influence his decision but I'm pretty sure silence will be seen as acceptance. As far as I am concerned the only agenda has to be oppose the cuts and contempt from COSLA and the Government.
