Teaching unions clash on supply staff

  • post reply

"SCOTLAND'S two largest teaching unions have clashed over the issue of a cut in pay for supply staff.

The spat came at the annual meeting of the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC) in Inverness.

The Scottish Secondary Teachers' Association (SSTA) moved a motion condemning a recent pay cut for supply staff, arguing it had created a "two-tier teaching workforce".

However, the motion was defeated after opposition from the rival Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS)." by Andrew Denholm.

I'd love to support you. But I haven't got £50. I haven't got 50 damn pence. I chose supply for its flexibility - I have difficult family caring responsibilities. I thought my union would help.

Could somebody out there, in the weird world of of the TUC take legal action on my behalf? I've paid my dues for years and years. And what do I get? My wages cut by half. Thanks.

It's shocking what COSLA did - but they only got away with it because the EIS let them!

All supply teachers must be pretty skint ... but we're losing over £50 EVERY DAY we work for the rip-off rate!
