GCC is a mystery...

Please can anyone explain to me how GCC is allocating supply for primary? I've asked and asked them and I get nothing! I've recently returned to their supply register after a 4 year absence and surprise! Nothing has changed, still chaos as I remember it, perhaps even more so. My first day of supply began with an 'interview' at 8.30 am. Wasn't my best interview by a long shot but they seemed desperate and kept me for the day. P7 class was worst ever and I've decided never ever again will I cover that class. What I need to know is: how does this interview system work exactly? Am I allocated to do supply now in only that one school or does the interview allow me to take on supply work at any school? Do I need to interview everytime I go to a new school. Had hoped GCC would provide info to me, rather feel they just threw me into it without telling me anything (don't know if I even have employee number or what salary scale I'm on). Can't seem to get through to anyone there, they take my number but never call back and do not reply to emails. Soooooo different from East Ren where I talk to the same person each time, they call you by name and even ask how you are! I'm feeling I've made a big mistake coming back to GCC, hope to at least earn enough to pay for the PVG!

That interview will do you for all supply. You will be paid at point 1 to begin with -unless you get contracts for longer than five days. The next school you do supply in will be able to get you your employee number. Payroll will also be able to give you this and your salary scale. There is lots of work in GCC just now - even if it is at the lower pay rate.

You're lucky that you even got that far! I also worked for them for years until about 4 years ago and then had a spell overseas. When I came back 18 months ago I put in my application and was asked to do a disclosure. After 6 months still nothing....more phone calls and then told now had to do a PVG.....went in for that and 9 months later still nada!! Kept being told to wait for an interview and now being told need to re-apply in May.....unbelievable! Now given up getting anywhere with GCC!!

Dont give up Fiduncan! Plenty of people have told me that GCC is desperate...so much so that they are now asking their own part time permanaent teachers to do supply! I'm surprised they are being slow about offering you an interview, the day I went in to Nye Bevan House to hand in disclosure app, id papers etc they asked another woman who was doing the same if she could go for an interview that day. They gave me very short notice too so its worth pestering them a bit.

I've had enough of GCC and supply. The behaviour in the majority of schools is dreadful compared with other LA's. I have been in umpteen schools, and the Glasgow policy of no exclusions in destroying any hope of getting teaching done. But it all looks good on paper. Glasgow is firmly rooted to the bottom of the exams table - and it deserves to be. They just abandon teachers in the zoos they call schools. Total disgrace.
